Simple Safety Tips For New And Learner Drivers
Some people find the process of being taught to drive something of a steep learning curve while others manage to take everything on board with ease. For some the driving test pass comes easily whereas others need a few goes to get everything right. This is because everyone learns in different ways and at different speeds. It is not only storing the information that is important, it is being able to take that information and those skills that the driving instructor has given you and put them to some practical use. But whether you are a quick study or a slow learner there are some simple driving tips that you should remember in order to make each journey as safe as possible.
Getting Started
Though it may appear that many drivers just get into their car and go, there are several thought processes that they go through automatically. For example if you were the pilot of a plane you would not start your engines until you were sure that all of the passengers or your cargo were secure, the same applies to you and your car. Firstly you need to make sure that your vehicle is secure, so check that all of the doors have been closed properly, if they are not a warning light should show on your dashboard. Ensure that you seat is in the correct position in order for you to drive comfortably, you need to be able to reach the pedals with ease and hold the steering wheel comfortably. Make sure that you can see clearly out of all of the mirrors on the car so that you have a good view all around the vehicle. Then finally, before you start your engine, make sure that you as well as any passengers are wearing your seat belts.
On The Move
Honestly there is nothing safer than keeping to the basics. Mirror, signal, manoeuvre may sound like an old cliché but fail to do it on the day of your test and you will receive a fail. Don’t do it when you are driving every day and you could end up in an accident. Not only does this simple routing keep you safe it also lets everyone else on the road know what your intentions are before you pull out into traffic.
You need to check your mirrors, both the rear view mirror and the wing mirrors to ensure that there is enough space around your car in order for you to perform your planned manoeuvre. By signalling you are giving the other traffic on the road a ‘heads up’ that you are about to move. There are many drivers on the road that seem to think that signalling is a waste of time, whereas in reality the right signal at the right time could save your life. Not only is your signal going to alert the traffic as to what you are doing, it also gives any pedestrians a clue too. Follow through with your manoeuvre and remember to keep checking your mirrors.
